Tables 5.5-1 (-8).  For Metal Building Roofs, Footnote “a” should be located next to the “Min R-value” assembly description rater than next to the description of the opaque element in column 1.  The intent of the standard should be to establish maximum U-factors for the various opaque elements.  How this is requirement is achieved should be left up to the designer.  There is no requirement for using thermal spacer blocks in metal building roofs.  If a designer elects to use the Rated R-value Approach, some of the specific assemblies listed in column 3, 5, and 7 may include thermal spacer blocks as part of their descriptions.  If so, the footnote should go with those descriptions.
